Lesson 6. Elastic electron scattering.

Students should be able to:

  • Describe the difference between Rutherford and Mott scattering
  • Discuss the reason for the divergency in the Rutherford cross section
  • Explain what a form factor is and how different charge distributions in the nucleus influence the elastic scattering data
  • Relate Form factors and the Rosenbluth formula
  • Differentiate between elastic and inelastic scattering

Warmup your students: ask  activating questions at the beginning and at the end of the lesson
