Lesson 6. Springs. Harmonic oscillations.

Students should be able to:

  • Set up and solve the equation of motion of a harmonic oscillator.
  • Determine the amplitude and frequency in position functions of oscillations.
  • Describe the transfer of potential to kinetic energy during the oscillation of a pendulum or a spring.
  • Calculate the eigenfrequency of a harmonic oscillator with a given mass and spring constant.
