6 Access to platforms and documentation

LET will create a course environment for you on edx.org, Swiss MOOC Service or Moodle. Please read about the different platforms and the respective data protection policy (click on the respective tabs). Below, you will find more information about the Swiss Mooc Service and edX.org.

6...1 – Swiss MOOC Service (SMS)

The Swiss MOOC Service (SMS) is a service that emerged from a swissuniversities project of various Swiss universities. The service is offered in Switzerland, and all data processing and storage takes place in Switzerland. Technically, the SMS is based on Open edX and is located in SWITCH IT infrastructure. The courses offered are accessible to all participants with a Switch AAI account or an EduID. Thus, globally available MOOCs as well as local blended courses can be offered on SMS.

EdX

The edX platform is suitable for ETH courses offered to a global audience. Edx.org may only be used by Innovedum approved MOOCs or courses derived from them. The platform including data storage is located in the USA and is subject to the legislation there. Therefore, neither online examinations nor performance assessments that count towards the final grade may be conducted on edx.org.

  • Publisher
In Publisher new course runs can be created and announced. Your contact person at LET will create runs, the course team is responsible for the announcement of the course, and edX will do the review and publish the About Page.
  • EdX Partner Portal
It can be useful to register on the edX Partner Portal, the destination for partners (like ETH) to learn, connect, and collaborate with one another. There you can explore rich resources, read success stories, and best practices while staying up-to-date with important news and updates. To use the edX Partner Portal, you must register and request verification as an edX partner. Visit partners.edx.org and create a new account by requesting Partner Access and filling in your personal details. You will receive a confirmation email with your account access within 24 hours.
EdX partner course teams can get technical support. To access technical support, submit a support ticket, or review any support tickets you have created, select Course Staff Support at the top of the page.

  • EdX Studio
    • LET will create a new course environment for you. Please specify the name of the course, the course start and end date, who is in the course team (usernames and e-mail addresses).
    • As soon as the new course environment is available, course editors can be added to the course. All course teachers should register on edX Studio in order to be added to the course team in the course environment.
  • EdX Insights
Data on course enrollment or learner performance a.o. are available on EdX Insights.

  • Switch Tube Channel
Videos have to be uploaded in a Switch Tube Channel, which LET will create for you. Do not upload videos directly to the edX platform!
