ETH members who have at least a 50% post and a teaching assignment and Directors of Study at ETH may submit project applications to Innovedum. Before you start writing an application for a new MOOC or Blended Learning project, we recommend you to:
-
Carefully study the application process
You can find all information about the application process on the Innovedum Fund website. The process for Blended Learning Projects is described here. The project underlies the formal and other evaluation criteria for blended learning projects, which are described under Evaluation criteria. - Create a course concept
Create a course concept, which describes the relationship between learning content and learning activities and what these contribute to the learning objectives. This way you will find out what educational media should be created. At this point, we recommend to ask for a consultation at LET. - Ask for a consultation at LET
Contact: Marinka Valkering, moocs_torques@let.ethz.ch
In the consultation we will discuss the project idea, the probability that the project application will be approved by the teaching commission and how we can maximize its chances. We also discuss open questions that were not, or not sufficiently, answered in the tutorial and clarify roles and responsibilities of the different partners. And, very important, our EdMedia Team will advice you on the art of media that have to be produced and where to develop them. At the application you should include quotes for the production (including post-production) of educational media produced at LET EdMedia, ID MMP or externally.
-
Produce a prototype
If you want to produce content videos in a studio setting, ID MMP offers to produce a prototyping video in the video studio free of charge. The prototype video will help you to better estimate the workload details and costs, which you will enter in the project application. Please contact ID MMP early to arrange the filming of your prototype video, and enquire about the estimated production costs of the “final” videos.
What makes a good project proposal for blended learning projects?
- The added value for ETH students is clearly described and is the central motivation for the project.
- The interaction between the online and physical courses is clear. For example, ETH students are responsible for moderating the course forum in groups of two and bring back what they have learned in class. They contribute to the online course in the form of a feedback video.
- Also, certain content can be outsourced in the online course, leaving more time for other things in class (see also Flipped Classroom).
- It is clearly described which learning activities help students to process/ internalize the offered content.
- Interaction between learners (learning from and with each other) and between learners and experts plays an important role.
- Regular evaluation and reflection by the course team are important tools to continuously improve the course.
- Learning materials and learning activities are embedded in one course environment into a cohesive whole that supports students in maintaining an overview of the course process and understanding contextual relationships.
- It is also important to bring as much variety as possible into video settings. For example, recording a discussion/interview with an expert, then again a classic content delivery video, etc. The video concept should be elaborated.
