Lesson 5. Newton laws. Friction.

Students should be able to:

  • Use free-body diagrams and Newton’s laws to construct equations of motion and solve them in two dimensions.
  • Calculate friction forces and use them for the description of motion phenomena.
  • Discuss the difference between static and dynamic friction.
  • Explain why the air resistivity leads to a maximal velocity in the free fall of objects.
