3 Types of Questions

The most used types of questions are

  • Single Choice
  • Kprime (multiple choice)
  • Open Essay Question

 

Single Choice

One question with three to x answer options. Only one answer option is correct.
The correct answer options can be either true/false or best answer.

Single choice questions are perfect for factual knowledge. They can be used to asses following cognitive levels[1]: Knowledge, Comprehending, Applying, Analyzing.

Kprime

One question with four answer options. Every answer option can either be true or false.
Answer options can only be true/false (or similar pair: e.g. black and white, aquaphob and aquaphil). Three correctly assessed answer options are rated with 50% of the allocated points.

Kprime questions are perfect for cases / case scenarios.

Open Essay Question

One open question. A model answer including the allocation of points must be designed in advance.

Open questions are perfect to assess any higher level of cognition (Synthesizing, Evaluating, Creating).
