Course outline

1. Course Goals

Using the communication skills developed throughout the module, including listening, reading , writing and discussion, students can analyse and discuss a wide range of film genres.

Parallel to studying the history of film, a critical analysis and theory of film, an overview of film genres, students will

• prepare and structure a presentation based on theoretical film studies articles

• discuss and analyze theoretical approaches in film with practical examples

• apply film analysis skills in writing

The goal is to use the fundamentals of film studies to improve students’ English skills through listening, reading, writing, discussion and vocabulary development.

 

2. Evaluation and Assessment

The module will be assessed as follows:

  • Presentation of Kuleshov effect (course requirement)
  • 1 written assignment: (30% of grade)

Mandatory class attendance

This course requires your active participation in all activities and discussions and to do the required reading. Two absences are permitted during the semester. Absences for military duty must be documented at the beginning of the semester.
