9 John Mole’s cultural triangle and organic versus systemic organisation model

9.1 –

Mole, John. Mind Your Manners. London: Nicholas Brealey Pub., 2003. Print.

This book looks at business culture in Europe and is aimed at helping further cooperation in the European Union.

The main concept of the theory is: People working in a multicultural environment sometimes may misunderstand behavioural and cultural differences or are oversensitive and defensive. Both of them can reduce effectiveness. People should increase their cultural understanding and mind their manners. In this book, John Mole concentrates on the effective aspects of the national way of doing business. In addition, he evaluates the behaviour, values and beliefs that have the most influence on our working relationships with colleagues, bosses, subordinates and the outside world, within the framework of the Culture Triangle of communication, leadership and organization.

In his book, John Mole said that Europe can be divided into four categories: geographic, political, economic and regional. Mole classifies the nations of Europe into
Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden
Baltic countries: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania
British Isles countries: Ireland, United Kingdom
Low countries: Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands
German-speaking countries: Austria, Germany, Switzerland
Central Europe: Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia
Latin Europe: France, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Spain
Balkan countries: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Romania
